Overcomers- 1 John 5:4 (ESV)

4 For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

What did John mean when he said that everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world? We know that Jesus overcame death by his resurrection. But John is talking about overcoming the world system. In Ephesians 2:2-3 Paul speaks of our former selves when we walked according to the prince of the power of the air carrying out the desires of our flesh. But now, through our faith, as John points out, we have overcome the world system.

We no longer have to be taken captive by the lures of Satan to sin. In Jesus, we have the power to overcome temptation. But when we do give in to temptation and sin, John tells us in 1 John 2:1-

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

In Revelation chapters 2-3 in the letters to the 7 churches, Jesus promises rewards to all overcomers. So placing your faith in Christ not only brings about salvation for your soul, which is important, and a great benefit, your faith also enables you to overcome the world system in this life.

God is good, all the time. All the time, God is good. What w wonderful Savior we have. However, if you have not yet trusted Jesus for your salvation, you are not an overcomer and are still walking in the power of the prince of the air. Trust Christ today and come into the kingdom of light. Your life on this earth will be better and your eternity will be even better.
