Limitless Love and Mercy- Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)

22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;

23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

In Matthew chapter 18, Peter asked Jesus how often he should forgive his brother for sinning against him. He asked: Up to seven times? Jesus responded with “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.”

Jesus was not giving an exact number here but was in fact stating that we are not to keep count. Forgive as many times as it is asked for. Forgiveness demonstrates love and mercy and is to be given as often as requested. We are to be like our heavenly Father who does not keep count of the sins of his children.

That’s what Jeremiah tells us in the book of Lamentations. The Lord’s love and mercies are never-ending. In fact, they are new every morning. As John tells us in 1 John 1:9- If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

There is no number of times connected with God’s mercy and forgiveness. God’s love and mercy are limitless. Since Jesus told us that we are to be like our heavenly Father, our love and mercy must be limitless as well.

Is there someone you need to extend love or mercy to. Do so today. If you have not yet received Christ as your Savior, this concept of limitless love and mercy is probably foreign to you. Receive Christ today and begin to receive limitless love and mercy from the Lord so that you may extend limitless love and mercy to others.
