Weathering Life’s Storms- Matthew 7:24 (ESV)
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
How do you handle life’s storms? Do you fall to pieces? Or do you have the calm assurance of knowing that God is in control. In Matthew Chapter 16, after Peter confesses that he acknowledges Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God, Jesus blessed him and revealed that man did not reveal the identity of Jesus to Peter, but God did. Jesus then stated, “ And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
The rock Jesus was speaking of was Peter’s confession. The church is built on the confession of Jesus being the Christ. When Jesus speaks of building your house on the rock, He is speaking of building your life on the confession of Jesus as the Christ (Messiah). In Matthew chapter 7 Jesus continues to say that the man who builds his house on the rock will be able to weather life’s storms. Notice, Jesus did not say if the storms come. He insinuated that they would come. We can’t prevent life’s storms. But when they come, if we are anchored in Christ, we will be able to stand and survive those storms.
Have you built your house on the rock? If not, you need to place your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior today. Don’t put off until tomorrow what you need to do today. Tomorrow a storm may come. Will you be prepared? With Christ, you will be.
