Answering Skeptics- Psalm 9:16 (ESV)
16 The Lord has made himself known; he has executed judgment; the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Higgaion. Selah
Does God exist? How do you know God exists? Can you prove that God exists? These are the types of questions that Christians are confronted with frequently from skeptics, atheists and agnostics. Most Christians answer these questions with things such as: “Yes God exists,” “I know in my heart that He exists,” or “No, I can’t prove that He exists, I just believe by faith that He does.”
The Bible, in and of itself, is proof of God’s existence. The Bible doesn’t attempt to prove the existence of God, it simply speaks of God’s existence as being fact. In Psalm 19:1 King David wrote:
1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Reading through the first chapter of Romans, in verses 19-20, we see that God, through the pen of the Apostle Paul wrote:
19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
In 2 Timothy 3:1-5 the Bible describes with precise accuracy the world of today. Watch the news, and you will see many of the actions, attitudes and ideologies displayed in mankind in today’s world. The Bible is filled with prophecies that have been fulfilled literally, and the remaining future prophecies will be fulfilled literally as well.
The Bible is absolute proof for the existence of God. As Peter, speaking of himself and the apostles wrote:
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. (2 Peter 1:16).
If you have not yet trusted Christ as your Savior, do so now. Today is the day of salvation. God exists. His judgment exists. And fortunately, His mercy exists. Trust Him, then find a good Bible believing church that will help you to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
