Soldiers of the Cross- 1 Timothy 6:12- (ESV)
12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.[1]
Christianity may be for the meek, but it is not for the faint of heart. We’re told by non- Christians that Christianity is for the weak. It’s a crutch, or so we’re told. Truth be told, the opposite is true. Christians are called to fight the good fight of the faith. We have been called to eternal life, and we are to take hold of it. When we live for Christ, we are living contrary to our culture. It’s our culture that can’t handle it, not Christians. Christians should be very happy to live contrary to our culture.
In verse 20 of this chapter, chapter 6, we are to avoid irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge.” Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians that the knowledge of man is inferior to the knowledge of God. Let us hold fast to the knowledge of God.
Christians are called to be soldiers of the cross. However, there is no need to fear this fight, because we are also told that Jesus is with us, and He will never leave us or forsake us. Paul reminds us in Ephesians Chapter 6 that our struggle (fight) is not against flesh and blood, but is a spiritual battle. James tells us to submit to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
If you are not fighting the good fight of faith, you need to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and trust him today. He will never let you down.
