Refreshment for Your Soul- Psalm 23:3 (ESV)

He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Are you wandering aimlessly through life? Do you feel an inner sense of uneasiness? God has a cure for that. In the twenty-third psalm, King David spoke of the Lord as being his Shepherd. As a shepherd refreshes his sheep by leading them to where they can drink water, he also leads them in the ways that they should go.

While the shepherd may have several ways or paths for the sheep to follow, Jesus only has one. He spoke of it in Matthew 7:13-14. The two ways are referred to as broad and narrow. The broad way leads to destruction, but the narrow way leads to life. King David tells us that Jesus will lead us in that narrow way. The narrow way is referred to by David as the paths of righteousness. He also states that his Shepherd leads him in the narrow way for His name’s sake.

Not only does Jesus lead us in the paths of righteousness (the narrow way), He restores our soul as well. When we sin, our soul becomes darkened and needs to be restored. When we confess our sin and repent, our Shepherd restores our soul.

If you are feeling anxious or distant from the Lord, confess your sin and repent. He will restore your soul and lead you in the way you should go. Confess your sins, repent, and Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Perhaps you are anxious and wandering aimlessly through life because you are attempting to live your life without Christ. If that describes you, Do as Proverbs 3:5 advises: Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Don’t wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow may be too late. Trust Christ today.
