Faith, not Sight- John 20:29 (ESV)

29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to some of His disciples. Thomas was not with the others at the time. When he was told that they had seen Jesus, Thomas refused to believe unless he could see the nail prints in Jesus’ hands and pul his finger in Jesus’ side.

Eight days later, Jesus appeared to them again. This time Thomas was with them. Jesus told Thomas to place his hand on Jesus’ side, see the nail prints, and believe. Thomas reacted by referring to Jesus as his Lord and his God. Jesus then told Thomas that he believed by sight. He then stated that those who would be blessed even more would be those who have not seen yet have believed.

In other words, people like us living today who have not seen Jesus yet have believed are blessed. We are blessed because of our faith. Some people refuse to come to Christ for salvation because they live by sight. However, salvation comes by God’s grace through faith in Christ.

Have you come to Christ in faith? Or are you a doubting Thomas? Jesus is calling you to salvation today. Listen to His voice and respond in faith. Then you too will be saved and will spend eternith with Jesus in the kingdom of God.
