The Father’s Will- Hebrews 10:7a ESV
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God…
Doing the will of God. That was the singular desire of Jesus Christ. The Bible gives us many different reasons as to why Jesus came to earth. He came to seek and to save the lost. He came to fulfill the law. He came to give His life as a ransom for many. Here in Hebrews chapter 10 we’re told that He came to do His Father’s will.
Seeking and saving the lost, fulfilling the law, and giving His life as a ransom were all part of God’s will. He also came to perfect for all time those who are being sanctified (Heb. 10:14). Jesus fully and completely fulfilled the law by being focused continuously on doing the Father’s will.
We are also called to do the Father’s will as well. The Father’s will for us is different than what His will for Jesus was. God has a will for each one of us. His will for you may be different than His will for me. However, there are some things that are His will for everyone. For example: It is the Father’s will that all should come to repentance. It is the Father’s will that all who believe in the Son shall be saved.
Those two are just the beginning. Once we have repented and believed and become a Christian, we now should have the desire to do the Father’s will that He has for our life. Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, prayed to the Father daily and submitted to the Spirit’s leading in His fulfillment of God’s will.
The Father will reveal His will to us as we submit to the indwelling Holy Spirit as well. Seek God’s will through prayer today and submit to the Spirit’s leading and you will live the abundant life that Christ promised as you fulfill God’s will for your life.
