Matthew 27:22 (ESV)

Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified!”

Let him be crucified. Less than a week earlier, they were hailing him as their Messiah. Now they are calling for his execution. Little did the people know that they were fulfilling God’s plan. And Pilate’s question became the question that people today are still asked in a slightly different wording.

The question today is: What will you do with Jesus? Will you receive Him as your Lord and Savior or will you reject Him? The crowd Pilate addressed rejected Jesus. Their rejection fulfilled God’s purpose and made salvation possible for, ironically enough, them, but for us as well. Two-thousand years later, people are still being saved based on the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

Yet, while the rejection of Jesus was God’s plan for that time, it is not God’s plan for today. For the Bible tells us that it is not the will of God that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. While it was necessary fir them to reject Christ so we could be saved, it is now necessary that we receive Him as our Lord and Savior to be saved.

Don’t be like the crowd Pilate addressed. If you have not yet received Christ as your Savior, do so today. Find a good Bible preaching church or a Christian you know, and ask how you can be saved.
