Clean Heart/Renewed Spirit. Psalm 51:10
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Recently I saw a television commercial where the actor was asking people how their heart was. Everyone’s answer was the same. They all claimed that their heart was fine. The Bible would disagree with that. Jeremiah tells us that our hearts are deceitful and sick. Jesus told us that all kinds of sinful actions come from the heart. Jesus also told us in the sermon on the mount that the pure in heart were blessed and would see God.
In Psalm 51 King David, after acknowledging his sin to God, asked God to give him a clean heart and to renew his spirit. Since we are all sinners, as Paul reminds us, and have the need to renew our minds, let us also come to God asking for a clean heart and a renewed spirit.
The apostle John tells us in 1 John 1:8-10: 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
This week, let us agree with God that we are sinners, confess our sins to him, ask him to cleanse our hearts and renew our sprits and minds, and he will forgive us our sins and will cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If you have not yet placed your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, that would be your first step. Trust Him today, then confess your sins and God will forgive your sins and cleanse your heart.
