Promises Kept- Hebrews 10:23 ESV

23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.

Have you ever broken a promise? Has someone you trusted ever broken a promise they made to you? The answer to both questions is most likely yes. We all make promises we cannot keep. When we break a promise, we make excuses as to why we could not keep the promise. When someone breaks a promise to us and makes excuses, we usually don’t want to accept that excuse.

God never makes excuses for breaking a promise because he never breaks a promise. The writer to the Hebrews tells us that God is faithful. When he makes a promise, he will see it through to its completion.

That is why the writer tells us to hold fast the confession of our hope. God has promised us the hope of eternal life in Jesus, and he will see it through to completion. That fact is confirmed to us by Paul in Philippians 1:6 where he wrote: And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

When you placed your faith in Christ, God promised you that you were now a child of his (John 1:12). If you have not trusted Christ, you do not have that promise, and you need to trust Him today. Place your faith in Christ, become a child of God, then hold fast the confession of your hope without wavering. God, who made the promise, is faithful to keep his promises.
