The Truth Will Set You Free- John 8:32 ESV

and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Freedom is something that we all want. What form of freedom are you searching for? Some people seek freedom from religion, while others seek freedom to express their religion. In some instances, when freedom is granted to a particular person or group of people, freedom is taken away from others. Therefore, there can be a negative aspect of freedom.

However, the freedom that Jesus offers is only positive. There is no negative effect on anyone else. The freedom Jesus gives affects only the person who receives it. The freedom that Jesus gives is found in the truth.

Freedom is found in the truth of the gospel message. The gospel is truth. The gospel is the good news of Christ. The gospel tells us of the life, death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and the salvation He secured for those who believe and accept His offer of salvation.

The freedom Jesus speaks of is freedom from the penalty of our sin, freedom from the power of sin, and some day in eternity future, we will enjoy freedom from the presence of sin. Because of the atoning death of Christ on the cross, we can experience freedom from the penalty for our sins. Romans 6:23 states: “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” We enjoy freedom from the power of sin because when we receive Christ as our Savior, He sends the Holy Spirit to indwell us and to guide us into all truth. The Holy Spirit does not lead us into temptation, but rather He reveals God’s truth to us. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” That way of escape is the leading of the Holy Spirit.

And in eternity future in God’s kingdom, we will be freed from the presence of sin. Would you like this freedom? Pray to receive Christ as your Lord and Savior today, and you will have it.
