The Gospel: The Power of God for Salvation- Romans 1:16 ESV

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

The power of God for salvation is in the gospel. Some Christians act as though they are ashamed of the gospel. They are reluctant to share the gospel with others. The apostle Paul was not one of those people.

Paul tells us here that he is not ashamed of the gospel. He then gives us his reason for not being ashamed of it. The gospel of Jesus Christ tells us about Jesus and what he has accomplished for us. If it were not for the gospel, we would not know Jesus, the power of God, or what salvation is, what it means, and more importantly how we can be saved. We could not be saved apart from the gospel.

We are saved by grace through faith and Paul tells us faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word. The word Paul speaks of is the gospel. God uses the gospel message to lead sinners to Christ so they may receive salvation. The gospel is the most important message ever given to mankind. Jesus preached the gospel during his earthly ministry, Paul preached the gospel during his ministry, as did Peter and the other apostles.

Fellow Christian, you were saved by grace through faith in the gospel message that you heard. How can we Christians be ashamed of the message that saved us from the wrath of God and has given us assurance of our salvation?

Let us be like Jesus, Paul, Peter, and the other apostles and share the gospel of Christ unashamedly. After all, as Paul reminded us, the gospel is the power of God for salvation. It is available to all, Jew and Gentile. If you are not a Christian, then no matter who you are, you can be saved, and the hearing of the gospel message will enable you to believe and receive Christ as your Savior.
